Curriculum

The Education Department at Grove City College partnered with DSI to prepare curriculum for our target sites in Les Cayes, Haiti. Brian Bain and his team of GCC students completed the English version of the Deep Springs International Science Curriculum. This curriculum is currently under review by Michael Ritter and being field tested by Haitian teachers. It has been translated into French by Kristen and Sandi Agnew. A team of professors and students at GCC are developed a dynamic business curriculum for student entreprenuers. This curriculum is under review by Ruth Dykstra and Ryan Entwistle, and is being translated into French.

Marketing

Three GCC Marketing Students who have completed Marketing Plan for DSI and is subsequently being executed by nine Communication Students. Currently they have created a marketing packet to be sent to individuals and designed DSI sport bags which are available on the website for purchase.

Downtown Window Marketing

Meg Chochola, DSI’s marketing intern, took initiative and worked with a friend to enter DSI in a window painting contest in downtown Grove City. The event took place during Grove City College’s Homecoming Weekend. The window was prominently displayed along the parade route seen by current students, alumni, and community members. The window depicts a common scene in Haiti of the shoreline and mountains in the distance.

Rotary International Hosts Clean Water Summit

The Rotary International hosted a Clean Water Summit conference December 14th-15th in Petion-Ville (near Port-au-Prince) Haiti. This was an international conference featuring the Haitian Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis and Rotary International President Wilf Wilkinson as keynote speakers.

The topics in this conference were organized around the two most difficult challenges in clean water programs today (1) How to keep projects operating effectively over time and (2) How to scale projects up to be regional or national in size. Using the landscape of problems and opportunities for clean water in Haiti’s schools and households, the Summit examined these two most elusive goals : sustainability and scalability.
